Interview with BLACK LINE for DO KO

The band BLACK LINE will perform in France for three dates, they answered to my questions…

How was created the band?

For a while, after DIO’s disband, everyone was about to take its own way. But Mikaru loved Syu’s drums (ex. Denka) and he sent him a love message “I really want to start a new band with you again. I can’t think of any other person than you which would play the drums behind me. How about to form a band with me?” Syu immediately fulfilled all Mikaru’s desire. Then, we met a lot of musicians and selected band members. Yudai has the sens of composer and plays perfectly the guitar. And Jun is cute and worker. Then, BLACK LINE was formed.

What are your musical influences?

Mikaru: The Beatles

Yudai: LUNA SEA

Jun: L’Arc~en~CIel

Syu: X JAPAN

What are the themes of your songs?

We’re not trying to espress, through various means of expression, one single universe through our songs. Each of our songs has their own universe and are composed with different themes. A bit like cinema. Even if it’s done by the same film-maker, each work have different themes. We think it would be annoying to have a single theme.

Describe your music.

We are going to speak about our first single: LEGNA.

- SHOW TIME: This song was the first title created by BLACK LINE. And we can consider it like the beginning. That’s why we called the song “SHOW TIME”. A bit like the beginning of BLACK LINE show.

- GLAD EYE: This is an erotic song. It speaks of a desire to see the heart and nude body of a sexy women, met in a bar and whose we are in love.

- DEEP INSIDE: This song speak about love and pain of vampire. It was a bit easy to create this universe because Mikaru is a vampire.

In the band, who is responsible for the look?

There is not anyone in particular. We discuss all together to find something that all members share the opinion and agree. We do like that.

What is your favorite live house in Japan? Do you have any funny anecdotes during performances?

The most familiar live house for BLACK LINE is SHIBUYA REX, especially in January we will perform our first one man live. BLACK LINE’s lives are very intense. Members often collide, we fall, we throw ourselves on the drums, etc. We would like you come to see us with the same intensity as we have fun together!

Do you have any fears or apprehensions before coming to perform abroad? What are your worst fears?

Yes quite, we wonder how many virgins there will be amond BLACKERS from abroad… (laugh) Because virgins blood is really delicious, according Mikaru! (laugh) Sacrifice your blood to Mikaru!

Is it important for your career to come abroad?

There is no border In music, in expressions, and the worldview. We never thought to stay only in Japan. We would like to spead the name of BLACK LINE worldwide. Our dream is to turn all the year around the world.
